Capsule Geology

The Area A occurrence area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group) volcanics. The volcanics are predominantly tuffs, agglomerates and grey to green andesites. Minor porphyritic (plagioclase and/or hornblende) flows and interflow sedimentary rocks are also present. The volcanic rocks are intruded by narrow quartz feldspar porphyry dikes which are 1 to 3 metres wide and strike northeast. The dikes, fine to medium-grained, are possibly related to the Eocene Kastberg Intrusions.

In 1996, Imperial Metals reported that Area A was 1 of 3 main mineralized areas located in the northeastern claim block (Chaco Bear 2 claim). Several anomalous samples were found on a ridge located north-northeast of the fly camp location, tested by samples BD 1 to 6 in an anomalous region designated Area A. Mineralization consisted of pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite, possible tetrahedrite and galena, and specular hematite with malachite staining in quartz-carbonate shear-breccia veins. Assays ranged up to 13.28 grams per tonne gold (BD96-3), 276.6 grams per tonne silver (BD96-5), and 3.72 per cent copper (BD96-6) with samples BD96-3 and 5 also assaying 3.52 per cent and 3.63 per cent copper, respectively (Assessment Report 24882).
